The American Gut Project studied over 10,000 people and found that those who ate 30+ different plants per week had significantly more diverse gut microbiomes.
More plant varieties feed more types of gut bacteria, creating a richer, more resilient microbiome ecosystem.
Over 70% of your immune system lives in your gut. A diverse microbiome means better immune function and disease resistance.
Different plants provide different fibres that nourish different microbes, improving digestion and nutrient absorption.
Based on research from the American Gut Project (McDonald et al., 2018)
Gutsy makes tracking your plant diversity effortless. No manual logging, no calorie counting.
Take a photo of your food. Gutsy's AI automatically detects every plant-based ingredient on your plate.

Your weekly plant count and diversity score update instantly. Track your progress across all 6 plant groups.
Powerful tools wrapped in a simple, delightful experience.
Point your camera at any meal and Gutsy's AI instantly identifies the plant-based ingredients. Avocado, cherry, cilantro — it catches them all. Edit or add anything it missed.
See your weekly plant count out of 30, your overall diversity score, recent meal history, and a full microbiome breakdown by plant group — all on one screen.
Each logged meal comes with an AI-generated gut health insight, a breakdown of detected ingredients, and a chart showing which plant groups are represented.
Every meal is saved with its photo, timestamp, and plant breakdown. Add custom tags like “lunch”, “snacking”, or “bloating” to track patterns and look back at what you've been eating.

Research from the American Gut Project found that people who eat 30 or more different types of plants per week have significantly more diverse gut microbiomes. This includes vegetables, fruits, wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds, and herbs and spices. Gutsy helps you track this effortlessly.
Simply snap a photo of your meal and Gutsy's AI analyses the image to detect the plant-based ingredients. You can then review, edit, or add anything the AI may have missed before confirming the entry.

Absolutely! Herbs and spices are one of the Super Six plant groups. Even small amounts of cilantro, turmeric, basil, or cumin count towards your 30-plant weekly goal and contribute unique beneficial compounds to your gut.
Your Diversity Score is calculated each week based on how many unique plants you've eaten and how evenly they're spread across the 6 plant groups. The more variety and balance, the higher your score — and the happier your gut microbes!
